Cleaning acrylic, PVC, Textilene and powder-coated aluminium
Approved cleaners by fabric family. Heat-sealed PVC and HDPE sails are not washed the same way.
By material
Use mild soap and a soft brush. Rinse until runoff is clear. Let fabric dry fully before retracting.
- Sunbrella / solution-dyed acrylic: soap + water; mildew on the underside is usually dirt, not dye failure.
- PVC / Ferrari 502 (heat-sealed): damp cloth; avoid solvents that attack the weld.
- Textilene / HDPE mesh: hose from the back to push debris out of the knit.
- Frames: non-abrasive wash; repair chips so coastal salt does not undercut the powder coat.
Questions people ask
- Can I pressure-wash an awning?
- No. Low-pressure rinse only. High pressure drives water into the cassette and abrades solution-dyed acrylic.
