Installing retractable shade systems
Wall, soffit, roof and post mounts; when DIY is allowed; when a certified installer is required.
Match the mount to the structure
Every Shadesology product lists allowed mounts on the product page: wall / fascia, soffit / eave, roof brackets, rafter clamps, and floor / post. Use the configurator mount tiles (they show a part thumbnail) so the hardware pack matches the job.
- Awnings: wall, soffit, stainless roof brackets (12 / 16 / 24 in), exposed rafter.
- Fabric pergolas: wall or soffit ledger when attached; steel or galvanized posts when freestanding.
- Louvered roofs: nine mount types; vertical privacy blades have no gutters.
- Screens: soffit, wall, or cavity (no headerbox).
When we require a certified installer
Coupled modules, cantilever louver bays, pool covers, and any Florida or Miami-Dade NOA project must be installed by a listed partner. Search by ZIP on the homepage or /installers.
Questions people ask
- Can I install an awning myself?
- Many wall-mounted awnings and zip screens include templates and hardware. Pergolas and louvered roofs require a certified installer.
- What structure do I need?
- Fasten into solid framing, masonry or steel — never fascia only unless the fascia is engineered for the load.
